Gordon Brothers served as a capital and operational partner to the buyers of Mercatone Uno, deploying €24m in 8 business days to allow 55 stores to continue trading and saving 2,019 jobs. Mercatone Uno, one of Italy’s largest furniture and home goods retailers, became Italy’s 3rd largest insolvency. A consortium of entrepreneurs planned to acquire the business, but shortly beforehand a key funding partner pulled out. Gordon Brothers rapidly provided a solution to allow the business to continue operating and the sales to proceed.
